History

In 1974 the 850 T brought the Tonti frame to a touring bike, with 68 hp and a single front disc. In spring 1975 the T3 followed with three discs and Guzzi’s linked braking: the pedal brakes the rear and one front disc. It became one of the best-selling Guzzis, also with police forces.

The T4 got the fairing of the 1000 SP and Nigusil-coated cylinders. The T5 of 1983 was almost a new bike, with square-finned cylinders, new suspension and at first 16-inch wheels, later 18-inch again.

What to check when buying

  • There are many ex-police T3s. Look for holes and brackets from police equipment.
  • Test the linked brakes: the pedal should brake front and rear firmly together.
  • Check the Nigusil cylinders of the T4 and T5. Smoke or oil use can mean wear.
  • On a T5: have the 16-inch wheels been replaced with 18-inch ones? That usually handles better.
  • Compare frame and engine numbers with the papers.
